AKA JUMP YEAR, a virtual year between high school and college (not your usual "college prep"), turns "education" upside down. Put down your books, pick up your untapped talents and head for Second Life. Students give the grades? …order or create courses? …hire teachers? Yes, yes, and yes.
BC ACADEMY IS A STEPPINGSTONE to college. Your future is NOT tied up in your SAT scores. One thing is required. Every quarter on Belle Isle, the whole academy (teachers, students, staff) develop, design and produce a public pageant from history or literature.
TEACHERS: ARE YOU READY?
BUT ARE THERE REGULAR COURSES FOR CREDIT? Yes, if students request them. One-on-one tutoring is available. Also, teachers are free to offer courses. Don't expect us to…
WE DO, HOWEVER…
SUMMER CAMP BEGINS in July in Second Life to bring literature and history alive for public presentation. As if you were in an independent film studio, you will wear many hats: making decisions, contributing your ideas to the team, acting, directing, building — finding your talents.
DID I MENTION OUR RENT-A-TEACHER PLAN? Find details at rentateacher.us, a step forward in student empowerment.
WHAT IF I'M NOT YET 18? Teen Second Life is strictly for 13- to 17-year-olds. Though TSL is segregated from the Main Grid, we can all communicate at the BCA website. On TSL, you learn SL skills, and meet people from around the world.
TEACHERS: ARE YOU READY for Moodle? For Second Life? Moodle has a strong mutual support community; in Second Life, almost anyone can help.
